It's so hard to get a good picture of a wholecloth quilt; it's hard to get the quilting to show and the color never seems right with photography lights or without.
This is also the quilt that I spent almost three weeks picking stitches out of. Seriously, I think I picked out each stitch at least once! Here's a picture before I picked:
This is after. Despite the trauma of picking stitches for three weeks, I think it was worth the effort. Do you agree?
Although I liked the colorful checkerboard, it really took over when you looked at the whole quilt. It overwhelmed the center. Now that my hands have recovered , I'm glad I did it! Thanks to Gail for
We're looking at another foot of snow tonight. The last 15 inches was just starting to melt away after 2 days of sunshine. It's just more incentive to stay inside and quilt!
Oh my goodness that is simply amazing
ReplyDeleteWOW. Thanks for showing it off.
ReplyDeleteStunning work!! Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely stunning! good luck in show
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this quilt! The overlapping feathers on the border, the little vines curling their way out over the edge, that stunning center with all the color! WOW! What shows are you entering it in? Will it be in Lancaster, cuz I'm going!
ReplyDeleteThe extra work was worth it. The quilt and your quilting is absolutely beautiful. I hope that I will get to see it in person. Good luck in whatever shows you enter.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful design! I do prefer the "after" to the "before" (with the coloured corners) ...but not sure I would have spent 3 weeks unpicking - O boy!
ReplyDeleteAll the best for the show
Hilda
Your quilt is breath taking!! That is dedication to do all that unpicking.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! As always. I think about you a lot. I've nearly lost my husband a time or two, but I can still only imagine what you're going through. Reading about your courage helps me face what might lie ahead. Thank you.
ReplyDeletePlease tell me that this will be at AQS Lancaster. I would so love to see it in person!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!! - it is better since you took out the little checkerboard, but it would still have been a beautiful quilt. It's just a perfect balance of flowing feathers and vines and flowers with the structure. It is clear that a lot of love went into it.
ReplyDeleteI suspect I don't know enough about quilting to appreciate the amazingness of this quilt. But even I can see it is something special. You are a stronger person than I am. But the revised model, sans checkerboard, is definitely an improvement. I hope you do another one sometime, with more checkerboards. I wish I could see this in person! And I'm sure Peter is proud too.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning, I love it. Peter would have loved it very much. I am hoping to get to see it in Paducah!!!!!

This quilt will always be so close to your heart because of your memories. May your memories, in time, be all good.
God Bless.
Breathtaking, Jan!
ReplyDeleteJan, it is gorgeous. I am curious...what do you use to paint the flowers?
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret - it actually is not painted, it's all thread. I'll post a picture that shows it close up.
DeletePure creativity. Genius.
ReplyDeleteWow, wow, wow!!!!! Absolutely one of the most creative and unique wholecloths I have ever seen!! I love the way the feathers wrap sround the rods.
